Construction Safety Manager

Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Construction Safety Manager to support active data center construction programs in Northern Virginia. As an Owner's Representative, you will play a vital role in upholding our Culture of Care by providing construction safety facilitation and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) oversight. You will collaborate closely with construction management teams, contractors, and project stakeholders to ensure strict adherence to safety requirements and local regulations. Responsibilities

  • Serve as an Owner's Representative supporting the Construction EHS function across various construction projects.
  • Maintain a consistent and visible presence on active construction sites through regular walks, safety observations, and engagement with contractors and project teams.
  • Review and verify contractor Construction EHS Plans for compliance with company safety requirements and local regulations.
  • Monitor and analyze contractor safety performance, identifying gaps, trends, and corrective action needs.
  • Evaluate contractor hazard assessments including Risk Assessments (RA/ARAs), Risk Analysis and Method Statements (RAMS), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Permit-to-Work (PTPs) processes.
  • Support incident response efforts, conduct investigations, and ensure follow-up actions are implemented effectively.
  • Perform field-focused EHS inspections, audits, and safety assessments.
  • Lead safety observation programs and provide coaching to project team members and contractors.
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive reports on contractor EHS performance, safety trends, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Promote and support EHS campaigns, initiatives, and the sharing of lessons learned throughout projects.

Qualifications

Required

  • You have proven experience in construction safety, preferably with relevant knowledge of data center or mission-critical construction environments.
  • You have experience operating effectively in active construction environments with a diverse range of contractors and project stakeholders.
  • You possess a thorough understanding of applicable safety regulations and standards including OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926, NFPA 70E, or local equivalents.
  • You have experience in reviewing and overseeing contractor safety plans and hazard assessments.
  • You have strong skills in incident management, investigation, and implementing corrective measures.
  • You demonstrate exceptional collaboration and stakeholder management abilities.
  • You have effective coaching and communication skills to influence safety culture positively.
  • You have strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • You are able to identify safety risks and drive continuous EHS improvement initiatives.
  • You can work independently as an Owner's Representative while aligning with the Construction EHS team.
  • You bring a proactive, hands-on approach with strong onsite presence.

Preferred

  • You hold a bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or related field.
  • You possess professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), or equivalent.
  • You have experience acting as a representative for General Contractors or Owners.
  • You are familiar with mission-critical data center infrastructure and operations.
  • You are proficient with common productivity tools and various information management platforms.
